On 19 September 2019, commercial property portal, PropList will be hosting PropBike, a one of a kind networking event at BikePark Wales in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. During the event, PropList will be raising money for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team (CBMRT).
Sam Empson, Sales and Marketing Director at PropList explains why the company has named CBMRT as its chosen charity and how the company plans to raise the funds:
“CBMRT consists entirely of unpaid volunteers, who are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to 999 emergencies for those in difficulty in the Brecon Beacons area. The organisation covers the central section of the Brecon Beacons which includes South Wales’ highest mountain, Pen y Fan, Cribyn and Corn Du as well as the Ystradfellte waterfalls – not to mention Cardiff, Newport and the South Wales valleys. They are one of the busiest teams in the country now responding to over 120 callouts a year.
The team meets one night a week and attends a full day exercise every month to ensure that they are in the best possible condition to help anyone in need, which is a huge commitment.
“As a voluntary organisation, CBMRT relies entirely on charitable donations to carry out this essential life-saving rescue service, which they have been providing since 1963. During that time, they have saved countless walkers, riders, bikers and motorists from a whole range of perils - as well as overcoming adversity themselves when fire broke out at their HQ in Merthyr Tydfil just before Christmas 2017. The fire damaged around £400,000 worth of vehicles and emergency rescue equipment, leaving the team still without a rescue base due to the major damage by the fire. This became the worst disaster any Mountain Rescue Team has suffered in the UK. Although back on their feet now, the recovery has been long and costly, and is still continuing as they are temporarily housed in Merthyr Tydfil Fire Station whilst they build a new rescue base that will meet the needs of a team in the 21st century which is why we want to help by raising funds at our PropBike event in September.
“PropBike will bring together a wide range of people in the commercial property world for a day of fun and adventure, followed by an evening meal and prize giving. During the event, we will be selling raffle tickets to our guests, offering a range of great prizes including a brand new, high specification mountain bike. All of the money raised will go directly to CBMRT to help them to continue to do the lifesaving work that they do.
“We believe it’s paramount that we support a local charity, and to raise awareness for a cause that helps our host venue directly. We will have property professionals from all across the UK attending, so along with the funds raised on the day, we can help spread the word of the brilliant work CBMRT carries out to their communities.”
Penny Brockman, Team Leader from CBMRT said: “We are delighted that PropList has chosen to support our charity – and are looking forward to attending the event as the on-site first aid team. BikePark Wales is a great venue for a networking event and somewhere quite a few of us have visited in our free time so we know PropList’s guests will have a great time!
